Digital Imaging for Dentistry
The iTero intraoral scanner is an advanced device used by dentists to capture detailed 3D images of the teeth, mouth, and jaw. iTero scanners are commonly utilized as part of treatment planning for restorative and orthodontic procedures, including Invisalign treatments.
iTero Digital Scanning
iTero scans provide a non-invasive imaging solution that does not use radiation. During the process, a wand is gently moved over the teeth, allowing the scanner to quickly collect images and capture all necessary data in just a few minutes. The collected images are then compiled into a complete 3D model, which can be viewed on a computer screen.

iTero Scans vs. Traditional Modelling
iTero scans often replace more invasive techniques for 3D modeling of the teeth and mouth, improving patient experiences and making the process more comfortable and straightforward for both dentists and patients.
The iTero scanner measures and maps the mouth in detail and full color, allowing dentists to see the exact positions and shapes of the teeth and gums. This enables dentists to create comprehensive treatment plans. Additionally, dental appliances can be constructed directly from the scan data.
The wand in the iTero system is also much smaller than traditional intraoral scanners, making it easier for dentists to take accurate scans of the molars.
iTero Scans Can Be Used in Treatment Planning For:
- Dental crowns
- Dental bridges
- Dental implants
- Veneers
- Traditional orthodontics (braces)
- Invisalign
